Mayor Fine announced four Council Ad Hoc committees to add Council leadership to these specific focus areas and help guide the work underway.

Council Ad Hoc Committees on Race and Equity

Police Policy Manual, Data, and Hiring

This ad hoc will explore current operations in the police department, seek to understand how the department regularly interacts with everyone in our community, and probe what is shown by the data we collect. It will also look at the current hiring and promotional process for our police department.

Accountability and Transparency

This ad hoc will focus on what information is shared with the community and the timeliness of that information sharing. It will look at current approaches to review police incidents and other accountability measures. Additionally, the ad hoc will discuss how to keep the public aware of department information.

Alternative Public Safety Service Models

This ad hoc will examine alternative service delivery options for public safety. These alternative options could include things like CAHOOTS (operating out of Eugene, Oregon), a consolidated Public Safety model such as Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Safety, iterations to our current model and different approaches to respond to vulnerable members of our community (i.e. PERT).

Citywide Diversity and Inclusion

This ad hoc will explore opportunities for increasing equity and inclusion across the City, both as an organization and as a community. Potential areas of focus could be training, hiring and internal measures to increase equity and diversity.
