Baylands Boardwalk Reopens with New Observation Deck
The new Baylands Boardwalk in the Baylands Nature Preserve reopened to the public on Feb. 1 after a five-month construction project. The original boardwalk was built in 1969, and all but the first 200 feet of the boardwalk was closed for safety reasons in 2014.
The new boardwalk is four-feet above the Harriet Mundy Marsh in the nature preserve and extends 850-feet to the shoreline. Made of naturally durable, decay-resistant materials, the five-foot-wide boardwalk follows the same alignment of the existing boardwalk and now meets accessibility standards with enough space for overlooks, new benches and an observation platform.
