University Circle Pavement Project Underway
Phase Two of the University Circle pavement repair project started on Monday, August 21, and includes replacing damaged concrete slabs to greatly improve the pavement condition of this highly used transit area. The pavement repairs are being done in three phases to ensure that the new concrete has adequate time to cure. Phase One was completed on August 21. Phase Two of the University Avenue Circle project is expected to be completed by September 5. The whole University Avenue Circle project is expected to be completed by September 21.
Phase Two includes the replacement of sidewalk in front of MacArthur Park restaurant and part of a lane on University Avenue. We’re aware that all of this has caused some traffic impacts and adjustments are being made to help things run more smoothly.
The following adjustments are being made to reduce the impact on traffic:
- better signage for both pedestrians and cars to avoid going through the tunnel where traffic is backing up
- traffic signal light adjustments at University and El Camino from 48 to 60 seconds to allow cars to clear University Avenue. We’ll continue to make signal timing adjustments as needed.
- adding better traffic control in the area throughout this phase
We appreciate your patience as we work to complete this project that involves Palo Alto, several transit agencies, and Stanford. For more information and updates, please look here under University Circle Pavement Repairs
