Palo Altans Have New Online Communication Tool
As a part of our ongoing commitment to civic engagement and community building, the City of Palo Alto has partnered with rBlock, a software development company, to pilot a new online, location-based communication network for Palo Alto residents and businesses.
The City is very excited about rBlock’s potential to connect citizens with their immediate neighbors, fellow Palo Altans and city government to share information, solve problems, generate imaginative ideas, and stay connected.
rBlock allows the City to share information with all residents and businesses based on geographic location and allows community members to privately share information with other people on their block, in their neighborhood or citywide. For example, the City is posting information targeted to specific blocks that are impacted by street repairs or utilities upgrades and posting broader information to all residents such as news about libraries, City-sponsored events or crime alerts.
Similarly, residents and businesses can post highly targeted messages to their block or neighborhood or announce information to the whole City. Best of all, each rBlock user can customize their page so they view only the type and geographic range of posts of interest to them. Residents, businesses, organizations and the press are encouraged to join rBlock now by visiting http://www.rblock.com/
It’s easy to do, there is no cost and there’s even an easy iPhone app so you can check posts while out and about.
Once you've tried rBlock out for awhile, we welcome your feedback on how useful it is to you!
