Upgrade Downtown Project on the Home Stretch

Upgrade Downtown Project on the Home Stretch

The Upgrade Downtown project is moving toward final stages of construction along University Avenue. Work on the last block of University between High Street and the ‘on and off’ ramps at Alma Street is underway and expected to be complete by the end of March.

The City has developed a traffic control plan with the contractor to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers are encouraged to detour to roads such as Lytton, Forest, or Hamilton to enter downtown.

Detailed maps of lane closures and detours are provided on the project website, UpgradeDowntownPA.com and will be included in our weekly email newsletter. Sign up to receive our email newsletter for updates on the project.

City staff are available to answer any questions and address concerns through a dedicated project hotline, 650-329-2DIG (2344), or by email at UpgradeDowntown@cityofpaloalto.org

The major utility infrastructure work is expected to be complete by the end of March. After all construction is complete, University Avenue will be repaved once weather conditions allow for it.

Stay tuned for a community appreciation event later this spring! We want to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure safe, reliable utility services.
