Palo Alto Shuttle
Who can ride the Palo Alto Shuttle?
The City of Palo Alto's Shuttle is free and open to everyone. All shuttles are wheelchair accessible (just make sure to have a working brake system). Each shuttle is equipped with bicycle racks on the exterior of the vehicle and can accommodate up to two conventional bicycles.
Where do the Shuttles go?
The Palo Alto Shuttles operate on two different routes:
- Crosstown Shuttle goes from Downtown to South Palo Alto.
- Embarcadero Shuttle goes from Downtown to the Baylands Business Park.
Shuttle stops along these routes are marked with a "Palo Alto Shuttle" sign, a sticker on a regular VTA bus stop sign, or a “Shuttle” decal on a stop sign pole in residential areas.

The operator for the Crosstown Shuttle is TransMetro.
Notice during Shelter-in-Place Order: The shuttle is currently running on its usual schedule as it is considered an essential service. As Caltrain adjusts its service, changes to the Crosstown Shuttle schedule will appear here.

The Crosstown Shuttle connects the University Avenue/Downtown to South Palo Alto at Charleston Road. The Crosstown Shuttle traverses several residential neighborhoods, schools, senior residences, libraries, recreation centers, and commercial districts helping to link public service areas within the community. A Special School route operates during the morning and afternoons to help encourage alternative transportation options for students.
For Crosstown Shuttle customer service (complaints, service/schedule questions, lost & found, etc), please call TransMetro dispatch at 510-830-5372.
Your input is welcome! The City is seeking feedback about the timed connections residents would like to make using the existing Crosstown Shuttle. Your input will help staff adjust the schedule so passengers can arrive on-time. Please note: These adjustments will be minor; changes will not be made to the average frequency (number of shuttle runs per day), route, or placement of stops.
