Storm Drain Replacement and Rehabilitation Projects

 Project Description

The Storm Drainage System Replacement and Rehabilitation program is funded by the Storm Water Management Fee ballot measure that was approved by Palo Alto voters in April 2017. This project provides for annual replacement and rehabilitation to maintain the integrity of the storm drain system, including deteriorated storm drain pipes, manholes, and storm drain inlets.

Projects

The current storm drain replacement and rehabilitation projects are listed below.

ALMA STREET / OREGON EXPRESSWAY OVERPASS STORM DRAIN BOX CULVERT PROJECT

The current project to rehabilitate an existing box culvert over Oregon Expressway is underway. The Oregon Expressway six-feet by six-feet concrete box culvert is an elevated storm drain structure that carries water parallel to Alma Street across Oregon Expressway. The box culvert is a two span structure over the roadway on Oregon Expressway with a center pier in the median. Leaks were detected along both sides of the box culvert in December 2016. The cracks were inspected and is proposed to be fixed to prevent leakage.

LOMA VERDE AVENUE TRUNK LINE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT – LOUIS ROAD REPAIR
The intersection of Louis Road and Loma Verde Avenue will be trenched open for excavation on the Loma Verde Avenue Trunk Line Improvement Project, a high priority replacement project identified on the Storm Drain Master Plan. This project creates an opportunity to replace broken storm drain pipes within Louis Road. The existing pipes near the intersection have deteriorated, reducing the amount of flow that can pass through the pipe. Deteriorated pipes are often replaced as part of the recurring Storm Drain System Replacement and Rehabilitation Project. Replacing these pipes now will eliminate the need to excavate the street a second time at a later date. The work on Louis Road replaces 133 linear feet of storm drain pipe.
