MORE INFORMATION ABOUT AUDITIONS & PRODUCTIONS

Open to Ages: 8-High School (Must turn 8 prior to performance dates)

* FOR ALL AUDITIONS: Prepare a memorized monologue, up to one-minute in length. If you do not have a monologue, you may ask to be given one to read, or browse this selection of Short Monologues in advance.
* FOR MUSICALS ONLY: Prepare 16 bars or up to 1-minute of a song. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music with you. If you do not have a song prepared, you may sing something simple such as Happy Birthday or you may learn one of these Short Songs in advance.

What to bring to the audition: You may register and fill out the Audition Form in person, or download and fill it out in advance.  ALL AUDITIONERS must provide their parent's name, email and phone number at the audition check-in.

At Callbacks: All children  (age 8+) who audition will also attend callbacks which may consist of one or more of the following activities: cold reading of text from the play and individual or group improvisation (plus a singing component for musicals - no advance preparation required). If your child is not available to attend the callback, BE SURE TO NOTE THAT AS A CONFLICT ON YOUR AUDITION FORM.

Conflicts: Please fill out your audition conflict sheet with great care.  We will only take pre-submitted conflicts into account when setting the rehearsal schedules.  Multiple additional conflicts that cause a performer to miss rehearsal may lead to a role being re-cast. There is a NO CONFLICT PERIOD (see dates listed above), during which we ask that all participants be available for ALL rehearsals. In order to audition, all children must be available for ALL PERFORMANCES, plus all rehearsals during the NO CONFLICT PERIOD.  If a conflict arises during the NO CONFLICT PERIOD after rehearsals have begun, the role will be re-cast. There are no understudies for Children's Theatre productions.

Casting: Cast lists will be posted in the marquee outside the theatre after 5pm on the day following callbacks.

Rehearsals Schedules: Rehearsals typically take place M-F after school and some weekend afternoons, but not all actors are called every day. The amount of time each cast member will be called to rehearse will depend on the size of the role and availability. In general, actors should be available an average (minimum) of 2-3 days per week before the conflict period in order to audition.

Audition and Performance Location: Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94301

Note: Outreach production auditions are held onsite in the schools. Look for audition materials to come home with your child, grades 3-5.
