School Programs

Group of children wearing safety googles

Throughout the school academic year, trained Museum educators offer a wide range of standards-based science programs for K-5 local elementary school classrooms. Programs can be tailored to complement core science instruction, or structured as stand-alone experiences for students.

The JMZ offers programming in the classrooms, at the museum, and in open space preserves.

PLEASE NOTE: The museum is temporarily located at Cubberley Community Center while the Junior Museum & Zoo is being rebuilt. During this time, there will only be limited animals on display within the museum, and there is no nearby playground.

Classroom Lessons

Classroom lessons typically last 50 minutes and can include hands-on encounters with live animals, natural artifacts and science tools and materials. These lessons may be offered in your school classrooms or at the museum as part of a field trip.

Prices for classroom lessons range in price depending upon the number of classes purchased, and Palo Alto schools receive an additional discount.  For some locations, an extra transportation fee will be applied. Class pricing is included in our program menu.

Open Space Field Trip

Some programs take place in local Palo Alto preserves. Open space programs can last from 1-3 hours. See the Field Trip section of our Program Menu & Fees document for descriptions of our open space programs.
