Palo Alto, CA – The City of Palo Alto has been selected by the United States Postal Service to make a second offer on the historic Palo Alto Post Office building located at 380 Hamilton Ave as part of the bidding process for the sale of the property. The City made its initial competitive purchase offer on October 17.  If successful, the City plans to restore the historic building and ensure its continued use as a public building.    

The historic Post Office was designed by Birge Clark and constructed by the federal government in 1932. It is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The building is zoned for public facility use.  Conversion of the historic building for private use would require rezoning. The owner would also be required to provide parking sufficient to meet code requirements for all developed square footage on site, through on-site, off-site or payment of in lieu parking fees (currently $60,750 per space). 

The anticipated deadline to submit a second offer is December 2, 2013.
