Driver of Cement Truck Dies After Solo Vehicle Accident

Palo Alto, CA -- A cement truck driver died after a solo-vehicle accident on San Antonio Road and Middlefield Road this morning.

At about 5:10 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, officers from the Palo Alto Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of a major accident on the 4200 block of Middlefield Road, just south of San Antonio Road.  Upon arrival, they found a cement truck on its side with a solo occupant inside.  Personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department pronounced the driver, an adult male, dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is not known at this time.  No other vehicles were involved, and no other people were injured.  Police do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor.  Police are not releasing the identity of the victim, pending notification of his family.

Police have shut down vehicle traffic on the 4200 block of Middlefield Road while officers from the Palo Alto Police Department's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team investigate the incident.  The status of the roadway will be updated via our Twitter account, @PaloAltoPolice.
