Palo Alto, CA – Palo Alto City Library now offers "Zinio for Libraries," a digital collection of popular magazines that can be read on a wide variety of computers and mobile devices inside or outside of the library. “Zinio for Libraries” is a subscription service offered through Recorded Books' digital library service, RBdigital, in partnership with Zinio, the world’s largest newsstand. With the Palo Alto City Library’s subscription, library cardholders gain free access to complete digital magazines, including full-color pictures, keyword searching, intuitive navigation, and interactive elements such as audio and video.

Library customers access “Zinio for Libraries” on the library website at Readers can choose from a collection of popular digital magazines to read online in any web browser or to download free for offline reading through a free app. Apps are available for PCs and Macs, and for most major mobile devices including iPad/iPhone, Android devices, Kindle Fire/HD, Nook HD, Windows 8 and BlackBerry Playbook. Library users can also access this magazine collection on computers in the library. The Economist, Forbes, Macworld, Martha Stewart Living, National Geographic, Newsweek, PCWorld, and Rolling Stone are just a few of the exciting digital magazine titles available in the library’s initial starter collection. The Library plans to expand this collection as more magazine publishers join “Zinio for Libraries.” All titles in the library collection are available to all library cardholders at any time with unlimited simultaneous access. These digital magazines never expire nor need to be returned.

“We’re so happy to meet the growing customer demand for digital content available anywhere, anytime on library users’ favorite devices. As more magazines, such as Newsweek, go to a digital-only format, we recognize the important role libraries play in making digital content accessible to everyone,” says Library Director Monique le Conge.

“I love having the ability to read so many different current magazines on my iPad anywhere I go. I might even drop several of my personal subscriptions now that I can get the same digital magazines free through the library!” says technology librarian and avid magazine reader, Jessica Goodman.
