Structure Fire on Channing Avenue Doused by Fire Crews
Contact : Chris Woodard, Battalion Chief, Fire Department    650-329-2615
Palo Alto, CA -- At 3:45 PM on Monday, June 17, the Palo Alto Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 600 block of Channing Avenue.

Palo Alto Fire Department Engines 1, 2, 3, Truck 6, Rescue 2,  Medic 1 and Menlo Park Engine 1 responded to a fire under the exterior steps outside the kitchen door. Engine 3 arrived to find tenants of the building attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. Flames raced up the side of the Queen Ann house which was built in 1896. The home sustained damage to the exterior siding and stairs.

The fire was contained to the exterior of the building. City Building Officials stated that the house would be uninhabitable due to the lack of electrical power. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and estimates of damage are unknown.

Fires at home can quickly escalate so it is always best to call 911 when the fire starts rather than attempt to extinguish it yourself. Attempting to extinguish the fire could put you in danger and delays the resources needed. Stay safe.
