Contact : Doug Conn, Battalion Chief    650-329-2615
Palo Alto, CA -- On May 14, at 4:33 p.m., Palo Alto Fire crews were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Harker Avenue, where the resident reported that he saw smoke coming from a light fixture in the ceiling of his kitchen.

The first arriving engine reported that there was light smoke showing at the front door and that there was smoke inside the structure. Crews had to pull the ceiling down in the kitchen to make access to the area between the first and second floors where the fire was located. The fire was extinguished quickly with moderate damage to the home. CPA Building Inspection Department and Palo Alto Fire Prevention crews were reviewing the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Currently they are reviewing a wall oven that was recently installed.

The 1st alarm assignment consisted of E1, E3, T6, R2, M2, Menlo Park E1 and B6. Palo Alto Police department assisted with traffic control in the area and Palo Alto Utilities responded to secure the power and gas for the residence. The Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the residents.
