Palo Alto to Host Citywide Yard Sale This June
Contact : Wendy Hediger, Zero Waste Coordinator    (650) 496-5912
Palo Alto, CA The City will host its biennial citywide yard sale Saturday June 8, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale is coordinated by Zero Waste Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Weekly. It is free and open to all Palo Alto residents. Residents interested in selling must register by Friday May 10, 2013.

Registration can be done online or by calling Zero Waste Palo Alto at (650) 496-5910. The online sign-up form is available at  Registered sellers will receive a fact sheet with tips for a successful sale and a list of local reuse organizations (for items that don’t sell). Sellers will also have their addresses featured on the official yard sale map that will be issued on the website and in the June 7, edition of the Palo Alto Weekly.

“By coordinating residents’ yard sales we hope to encourage the Bay Area community to keep useful items out of the landfill,” said Wendy Hediger, Zero Waste Coordinator.

Purchasing second-hand items not only reduces waste, it has a smaller carbon footprint than buying brand-new items, which require more energy to produce and transport. “Reuse is much better than recycling,” said Hediger. “Reselling used but functional items is good for ourselves, our community and the environment.”

Zero Waste Palo Alto is a program of the Public Works Department. Their mission is to work in partnership with our community to conserve resources and minimize material consumption to reduce our waste to zero (or darn close) by 2021. For more information about Zero Waste go to
