Palo Alto Fire to Hold “Virtual Ride-Along” on Twitter Tuesday, February 19
Contact : Catherine Capriles, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Department    650 329-2265
Palo Alto, CA – Do you want to spend next Tuesday riding with the crews of Fire Engine 1 and Medic 1 in downtown Palo Alto? If you are on Twitter, you are going to be able to do just that.

The Palo Alto Fire Department is holding their first-ever "virtual ride-along" via Twitter on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 8 AM until 5 PM.  If there are events that encourage a longer ride, we'll stay with the crew.  A member of our Administrative staff will be riding with the Engine and Medic crews and live-tweeting calls for service, medical incidents, car accidents, fires, and anything else that may come up during the day.  Palo Alto Fire will also talk about training, inspections, maintenance and other daily duties of the crews.  Follow this ride-along on the official Department Twitter account, @PaloAltoFire.

The goal of the “virtual ride-along” is to give citizens and community members insight into the realities of fire and rescue services in Palo Alto.  Tweets may include pictures and videos as appropriate.

Visit to follow along. All tweets will include the hashtag “PAFDvra” for "Palo Alto Fire Department virtual ride-along." Anyone can view the ongoing conversation and Twitter users can ask questions during the ride-along by using the hashtag or mentioning Palo Alto Fire. Questions will be answered as time allows.

The Palo Alto Fire Department launched its social media platforms in June 2012.  Links to its Facebook and Twitter accounts can be found at
