City Auditor Releases City of Palo Alto Performance Report for 2012
Contact : Jim Pelletier, City Auditor    650-329-2629
Palo Alto, CA – Palo Alto City Auditor Jim Pelletier released the City of Palo Alto Performance Report for Fiscal Year 2012, which provides a report card on how the City is doing. The annual Performance Report (formerly Service Efforts and Accomplishments Report) is designed to provide the residents of Palo Alto, City Council, City Staff, and other stakeholders with information on past performance to strengthen public accountability, improve government efficiency and effectiveness, and support ongoing decision making.

"I'm very excited to present the residents and City Council with this year’s report," said Pelletier. “The report has been redesigned to focus on key performance measures related to the goals and objectives of the City.”

The report includes information on the costs, quality, quantity and timeliness of City services. It also includes a variety of comparisons to other cities, results from the National Citizen SurveyTM, and data from various other sources including the State Controller’s Cities Report, various U.S. Census Bureau Reports, and Crime Statistics, among others. By working closely with each of the City Departments, the City Auditor’s Office identified the data and information that best represents the overall performance of the City and its individual departments and divisions.

This is the eleventh annual Performance Report prepared by the City Auditor’s Office. By reviewing the entire report, readers will gain a better understanding of the mission and work of each of the City’s departments. “

Our goal,” said Pelletier, “is to provide consistent, reliable information to support readers in assessing whether the City is achieving its goals and objectives in an efficient and effective manner. Additionally, we want to assist the City in meeting its responsibilities to be transparent and accountable in the stewardship of public resources.”

The report is available at http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/gov/depts/aud/reports/accomplishments.asp. Beginning on February 4, hardcopies will be available to view at each of the City’s library branches or individuals may obtain color hardcopies from the City Auditor’s Office in City Hall.
