Armed Robbery Occurs at Liquor Store
Contact : Marco Estrada, Officer, Police    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- Two men armed with handguns robbed a liquor store in Midtown Palo Alto on Saturday night, and absconded with alcohol and cash.  There were no injuries and the suspects remain at large.

On Saturday, December 29, 2012, at about 7:55 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from Century Liquors at 3163 Middlefield Road reporting that the store had just been robbed and that the suspects had fled on foot.  Officers arrived on scene within one minute and began a search for the suspects with the assistance of a canine unit from the Mountain View Police Department.  A helicopter from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, after monitoring the robbery on the police radio, self-responded to the call to help with the search.  Despite these efforts, the search was unsuccessful.

The investigation revealed that the two suspects had entered the store and demanded alcohol and cash from the victim clerk, a man in his twenties.  One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim, who complied with the demands.  The suspects placed 12 bottles of various types of alcohol (with a total value of about $230) into backpacks they had brought with them, and then they fled out the front door with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The victim did not see them get into a vehicle.  No customers were in the store at the time.

The victim described both suspects as black men in their twenties.  They were both wearing black masks, black jackets, and dark pants.  They were both armed with semi-automatic handguns.  One of the suspects was about 6 feet tall with a thin build.  The other suspect was about 5 feet 10 inches tall.  The victim could see black skin around the eye holes of the masks on both men.  No surveillance images are available for release at this time; if such images become available later, we will release them then.

Detectives from the Palo Alto Police Department are actively investigating this incident.  Police ask that anyone who may have information about this crime contact our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.  Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.
