Suspect Robs Credit Union on El Camino Real
Contact : Zach Perron, Lieutenant, Police    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- An unmasked suspect vaulted the teller counter at Star One Credit Union in Palo Alto this morning and robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at approximately 11:08 a.m., the Palo Alto Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls from witnesses to a robbery at Star One Credit Union at 3903 El Camino Real.  The initial caller, a credit union customer who had fled from the business upon realizing that a robbery was in progress, called 9-1-1 while the suspect was still inside.  Officers arrived on scene within a minute of being dispatched, but the suspect had fled within that short time.  Officers were unable to locate the suspect despite an extensive check of the area.  No one was injured during the robbery.

The investigation revealed that the lone suspect entered the credit union and vaulted the teller counter.  He removed cash from teller drawers, jumped back over the counter, and fled on foot eastbound on Ventura Avenue.

There were multiple witnesses both inside and outside of the credit union who saw the robbery and watched the suspect run out of the business.  While one witness reported that they may have seen the suspect holding a handgun, no other witnesses saw a weapon.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, 5'7" to 5’9” tall, and approximately 175 to 180 pounds.  He had very short, close-cropped hair.  He was wearing a pair of reflective Oakley-style sunglasses, a short-sleeved dark polo shirt, baggy blue jeans, and two-toned blue and white tennis shoes.  A Star One Credit Union surveillance photo of the suspect is attached to this release.
