Contact : Zach Perron, Lieutenant, Police    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- A man approached a woman from behind near downtown Palo Alto yesterday, grabbed her buttocks under her dress, and fled the area on foot.

On Monday, August 20, 2012, at about noon, officers from the Palo Alto Police Department responded to the 600 block of Fulton Street on a report of a sexual battery that had just occurred.  The victim, a female in her 20s, had stopped near the front door of her parked vehicle to retrieve keys from her purse.  An unknown male suspect approached her from behind and used his hand to grab her buttocks under her dress.  The suspect then ran away eastbound on Hamilton Avenue from Fulton Street.  The victim immediately called    9-1-1 from her cell phone.  Officers flooded the area but were unable to locate the suspect.  The victim was not injured.

The victim described the suspect as an East Indian male between 25 and 35 years of age.  He had black hair.  He was wearing an orange "varsity style" jacket, blue jeans, and shoes similar to Vans.  A sketch of the suspect is attached to this press release.

There have been no other similar cases recently in Palo Alto.  Detectives are conducting follow-up investigation and are working with other agencies to identify any crimes committed by a similarly-described suspect.
