Apartment Fire on El Camino Real

Palo Alto – On Thursday, August 9, at 2:05 PM, the Palo Alto Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire involving one unit on El Camino Real.

According to the reporting parties, the apartment was actively burning. Two callers identified smoke and flames being seen from the street. 

Palo Alto Fire arrived to find a two-story apartment unit with light smoke and evidence of a small kitchen fire that had been isolated to the cooktop and hood area (above cooktop). Crews quickly conducted a thorough search to establish that no occupants were inside. Crews then focused on checking for fire extension and performed salvage and overhaul. The cause of the fire is under investigation at the time of this report.

This situation demonstrated how alert citizens can make a difference. The Fire Department appreciates the public's assistance, especially when they report emergencies in a timely manner. The alert citizens truly made a difference in this case.

No residents or Fire personnel were injured.

The response included Palo Alto Fire Engines 5, 2, 4, Rescue-2, Truck 6, D/C OPS & Battalion Chief 6, and 1 Fire investigator.
