Vandals Slash Tires on More Than 50 Vehicles Overnight
Contact : Lieutenant Zach Perron, Palo Alto Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, CA -- Vandals slashed tires on more than 50 vehicles overnight in a Palo Alto neighborhood, causing thousands of dollars of damage.

Officers from the Palo Alto Police Department received the first vandalism call from the 3900 block of Ventura Court shortly after 7 AM on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Officers checked the neighborhood and located many other damaged vehicles that had not yet been reported to police. As of this writing, officers have identified 51 separate vehicles that had at least one tire punctured.

The initial investigation reveals that the crimes occurred between 2 AM and 7 AM. The suspect or suspects slashed tires on vehicles parked on the street (and in some cases, driveways) in the 200 block of East Meadow Drive, the 4000 block of Park Boulevard, the 200 block of Maclane, the 3900 block of Ventura Court, and the 300 block of Ventura Avenue. Many vehicles had multiple tires destroyed. Virtually all of the tires slashed were on the sides of the vehicles closest to the sidewalk. It appears the suspect or suspects used a knife or some other sharp tool to puncture the tires. An exact dollar amount of the damage is unknown at this point, but it is easily in the thousands of dollars.

The Palo Alto Police Department received no calls for service overnight related to this crime spree. There is no suspect information at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Officers will be increasing patrols in the area.
