Rediscover Downtown Library
Palo Alto Downtown Library Set to Reopen

Palo Alto, CA – The redesigned Downtown Library reopens on Saturday, July 16, 2011, with the "Rediscover Downtown Library" grand reopening celebration. Downtown Library is the first completed of three voter-approved Measure N bond-funded projects designed to bring state-of-the-art library facilities to Palo Alto.

Rejoice with Mayor Sid Espinosa, City Council members, City Manager Jim Keene, new Library Director Monique le Conge, the Library Advisory Commission, the Palo Alto Library Foundation, the Friends of the Palo Alto Library, and library staff at the “Rediscover Downtown Library” celebration. 

                        When: Saturday, July 16, 2011, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
                        Where: Downtown Library, 270 Forest Avenue

The day's festivities will include a ribbon cutting ceremony in the morning, live music, and a fire engine visit in the afternoon. Attendees of all ages will enjoy free performances by Magic Mike, Cowgirl Karen Quest, Luce Puppet Show, Happy Birds, and juggler Thomas Truman John, as well as a very special Mayor’s Storytime. Outdoor community tables will feature local organizations and businesses. Delicious free refreshments will be provided by California Pizza Kitchen, Culture Frozen Yogurt, Peet’s Coffee and Whole Foods. Forest Avenue will be closed between Ramona and Bryant from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for this celebration. 

Library Director Monique le Conge invites all Palo Altans to “be among the first to rediscover Downtown Library at the rededication of a community library, the tangible result of voters approving Measure N in 2008.”

Make a whole day of celebrating Palo Alto’s exciting new facilities by also attending the Art Center groundbreaking on Saturday, July 16 from 1-3 p.m., at 1313 Newell Road, just a short, bike-friendly distance from the Downtown Library.
