Robbery and Car-Jacking Suspect Arrested

Palo Alto, Ca - On Monday, April 4, 2011, at 10:15 PM, an attempted armed robbery and carjacking occurred in the 1200 block of Hamilton Avenue. During this incident, the suspect, East Palo Alto resident Deanonta Holmes 19, approached the victims while they were sitting in their vehicle. The suspect opened the passenger side door of their parked vehicle and demanded money and car keys from the victims. The victims told the suspect they did not have any money and the suspect fled. The victims also left the scene and called police to report the incident. No one was injured during the

Police immediately responded to the area and located a person matching the description provided by the victims. A replica handgun and gloves were located on the ground near the suspect. The suspect was booked into the San Jose Main Jail for charges consisting of attempted robbery and carjacking. He has prior arrests for weapons and theft related charges.

Detectives are investigating the suspect's possible involvement in past "street robberies" that recently occurred within the City of Palo Alto. No further information is available regarding the suspect’s involvement in other robberies as of the time of this release.
