Two People Arrested for Driving Under the Influence After Accident
Contact : Officer Marianna Villaescusa, Palo Alto Police Department    650-329-2413
Palo Alto, Ca -- On Monday, January 31, 2011, at approximately 7:02 PM, Palo Alto Police responded to the Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course located at 1875 Embarcadero Road, on the report of a possible hit and run vehicle accident.

Witnesses at the scene reported that vehicle had hit a parked car and the driver was uncooperative and possibly intoxicated. Ultimately, the driver left the scene of the accident before police arrived, failing to leave any identifying information for the owner of the parked vehicle. Witnesses were able to obtain a license plate number and described the vehicle as a dark Toyota Camry.

The first officer to arrive in the area located a white Toyota Highlander parked on top of a grassy embankment directly in front of the golf course. The officer contacted the female driver and immediately smelled the odor of alcohol on her person.

Witnesses confirmed that the Highlander was not the car that was involved in the hit and run accident; however, officers later learned that this woman had been in a verbal argument with the driver of the hit and run vehicle.

Police determined that the female driver of the white Toyota Highlander was not involved in any vehicle accidents; however, she was driving while intoxicated. She was identified as 39-year-old Jung Sang Lee from Palo Alto and was arrested for driving under the influence. She was cited and released to a sober acquaintance.

While officers were gathering further information, Palo Alto Communications received a 9-1-1 call from a driver in the area of Embarcadero Road and Cowper Street reporting that her vehicle and another vehicle were struck by a dark Toyota Camry. The license number she provided was the same as the one in the earlier hit and run at the golf course.

A short time later, a Palo Alto Police unit spotted the hit and run suspect vehicle driving northbound on El Camino Real at Medical Foundation Way. He pulled the vehicle over and immediately smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the male suspect. Several witnesses positively identified the suspect as being involved in both hit and run accidents. His vehicle also sustained damage consistent with the accidents.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was identified as 43-year-old Soo Ha Woo from Santa Clara. He was arrested for driving under the influence and three counts of hit and run and was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Both arrested party's vehicles were towed from the scene. The two were mutual acquaintances and had been drinking at the golf course.

No injuries were reported in any of the accidents. All vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage.
