Palo Alto, CA – On Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 5:30 PM, Palo Alto Police Detectives arrested Villivuni Fono, 21years-old from East Palo Alto. Fono has been identified as a suspect in at least two of the robberies that have occurred in Palo Alto Since September 20, 2010 and is a person of interest in one other case.

On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, a robbery occurred in the 500 block of Fulton Street, a few blocks east of the downtown area of Palo Alto. The 27 year-old victim was approached near his home by two suspects who engaged the victim in conversation then one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim, fearing for his safety gave his property to the suspects who fled with the victim's messenger bag and wallet. The victim was able to positively identify Fono as one of the suspects in this case. The other suspect is still outstanding.

On Friday, November 5, 2010, a robbery occurred in the 500 block of Forest Avenue where the victim’s wallet was stolen. A vehicle containing at least three suspects approached the victim, brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspect vehicle was later located in East Palo Alto and a 16 year-old juvenile suspect was taken into custody and booked at Juvenile Hall. Ana Loiloi Umufuke, from East Palo Alto was associated with this crime and was arrested on November 19, 2010.  Information discovered later during the investigation led detectives to suspect Fono and he was arrested and booked into the San Jose Main Jail last night.
