Contact : Ned Himmel, Interim Library Director    650-329-2403

Palo Alto, CA – The City will host a community meeting on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. to discuss the plans for the upcoming expansion and renovation of Main Library. The meeting will be held at the Main Library, 1213 Newell Rd.

Measure N, which was passed by 69.4% of Palo Alto’s voters in November 2008, will fund the expansion and renovation of Main Library. Group 4 Architecture of South San Francisco has been hired to complete the design and construction drawings for the facility. Group 4 also developed the design and plans for the renovated Downtown Library and the new Mitchell Park Library and Community Center, both of which are now under construction. The Downtown Library will reopen in summer 2011. A temporary library at the Cubberley Community Center has opened to provide service while the Mitchell Park Library & Community Center is under construction. The construction at Main Library will begin after the new Mitchell Park Library opens in 2012.

The November 16 meeting will include presentations by architects from Group 4 and City staff. Specific topics for discussion will include the following:

  • Updates on the Downtown Library and Mitchell Park Library & Community Center
  • Site and floor plans for the expanded and renovated Main Library
  • Library service for customers residing in the Main Library neighborhood when the Main Library closes for construction

Staff from the City’s Public Works, Library and Community Services departments as well as the City Manager’s Office will be available to answer questions. For more information, please contact Ned Himmel at (650) 329-2403.
