Contact : James Keene, City Manager    650-329-2563

Palo Alto, CA – The City of Palo Alto is announcing that Kelly McAdoo Morariu, Assistant to the City Manager, will leave for the position of Assistant City Manager in Hayward. Morariu has been with Palo Alto since 2006 and her last day with Palo Alto will be October 22, 2010.

Morariu joined Palo Alto in September 2006 as the Assistant to the City Manager. In addition to handling those duties, she also served as Interim Deputy City Manager from May 2007 – May 2008 and as Interim Arts & Sciences Manager from August 2009 – August 2010.

“We will really miss Kelly and wish her all the best. She’s been a valuable contributor to the City over the past four years,” said James Keene, City Manager. “Kelly is on the path to become a City Manager and this is an important next step in her career.”

Over the past few years, Morariu has played a critical role in many key projects for Palo Alto, including the 2008 library/community center bond measure, the adoption of the Foothills Fire Management Plan, and the reinstitution of the Palo Alto/Stanford Citizen Corps Council. As a member of the senior management team of the City, Morariu initiated many efforts to streamline internal operations. She has also worked to strengthen key partnerships with community and non-profit groups in Palo Alto.

“I’ve really enjoyed the experience of working in the City. I value the many relationships I’ve developed both within the community and among my colleagues.” said Morariu. “These experiences have prepared me well to take on this new role.”

Prior to joining Palo Alto, Morariu worked for the City of Fremont for seven years in a variety of management and administrative capacities in the City Manager’s Office as well as the Fire and Community Development Departments.
