Robbery Suspects Arrested

Palo Alto, CA -- Two suspects robbed a woman within feet of the Palo Alto Police Department headquarters Monday evening. September 20. The suspects were arrested by Palo Alto Police as they attempted to flee into East Palo Alto.

On Monday, September 20, 2010, at 8:32 PM, a woman in her 20s was walking near Palo Alto City Hall. As the woman crossed the intersection of Bryant Street and Forest Avenue, a car pulled over at the curb near her. A male exited the car holding a baseball bat and approached the woman, demanding money. Fearing for her safety, the victim handed over her purse. The suspect jumped into the the waiting vehicle, which then fled the area. The victim immediately called 9-1-1 and provided dispatchers with a suspect vehicle description.

A Palo Alto Police Officer spotted the suspect vehicle as it was driving northbound on East Bayshore Road at Laura Lane. Police stopped the vehicle, and the victim was able to identify the suspects during a field lineup. The victim’s stolen property was also found inside the suspect's vehicle.

Police arrested 18-year old Jose Alfredo Plaza of Santa Clara. He was charged with robbery, conspiracy, and driving unlicensed. Also arrested was 21-year old Anal Harshad Patel, of Sunnyvale. He was charged with robbery and conspiracy. Both suspects were booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
