Contact : Mike Denson, Lieutenant, Police Department    650-329-2449
Palo Alto, CA -- On Tuesday, December 15, parking enforcement in downtown and in the California Avenue shopping district will be temporarily relaxed to allow shoppers and visitors to park up to three hours in designated 2-hour parking spaces during the holidays.

From December 15, 2009, through January 3, 2010, the Palo Alto Police Department will permit three hour parking in all 2-hour parking spaces in the downtown and California Avenue business districts. Posted signs will not be changed; however parking enforcement along streets, in garages and in off-street parking lots will be extended to three hours in posted 2-hour slots.

"It has been an annual tradition for the City to ease its parking rules during the holidays," said Steve Emslie, Deputy City Manager. "We want visitors to come to Palo Alto to shop, dine and enjoy the festive atmosphere, without getting a ticket."

All other parking restrictions, such as yellow loading zones, red and green curbs, handicap parking, permit-only parking, downtown color zone regulations, no parking signs, etc., will continue to be strictly enforced.
