Palo Alto, CA – The City of Palo Alto and the Friends of Palo Alto Children's Theatre are pleased to announce the completion of the newly renovated Gary Wang Studio, a space that will be used for both rehearsals and new dance classes offered by the Theatre. The renovation was completed for $14,100, a generous donation by the Friends.

"The City is delighted to receive this stunning gift from the Friends.  This is a perfect example of what Friends groups and the City can accomplish by working together to enhance our valued community assets," remarked Kelly Morariu, Assistant to the City Manager.

The 535 square foot studio was built in 1998. For years, the space was utilized as a library, conference room and document storage space. The remodel began in early summer. Now completed, the studio includes a spacious sky blue painted ceiling, new floor to ceiling mirrors, and specially-treated hardwood dance floors. Over 500 dance students and performers are expected to use this space each year, during production rehearsals and performing arts classes.

Sylvia Sanders, Friends Board Co-President, looks forward to the positive impact that this renovation will have on the current and future budding performers, noting that “Palo Alto Children’s Theatre has been home to the performing arts for generations.  This dedicated dance space allows the Theatre to expand its education offerings and serve an increasing number of children.”

This facility has already been pressed into service as the NUTCRACKER is presently in production.  Opening night of this popular holiday show is December 11, 2009.
