Contact : Barbara Cimino, Public Information Officer, Fire Department    650-444-6267

Palo Alto,CA – At approximately 4:45 AM, a fire was reported on the 300 block of Waverly, a multi-unit condominium complex. The fire was confined to one unit. Approximately 25 people from the complex were temporarily evacuated.   Red Cross has been called to assist those that may need additional help.  There were no injuries to residents or responders.

Palo Alto Police and Menlo Park Fire responders assisted in the evacuation.  The fire in the first floor condominium appears to have started on the patio and spread into the unit.  The fire was contained within 20 minutes.

A resident awoke to the sound of the fire, and quickly began knocking on doors to get other residents out of the building. He then notified 911 and held the fire at bay with a garden hose until the fire crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and initial damage estimates are still being determined.

This will be updated as information become available.
