Palo Alto, CA - On August 25, at approximately 7 p.m., Palo Alto Police responded to the Nordstrom's clothing store at Stanford Shopping Center on the report of an armed robbery of merchandise. Nordstrom's security officers attempted to detain a female suspect they witnessed concealing clothing and exiting the store without attempting to pay for it. When they attempted to detain the suspect, she sprayed three security officers with pepper spray and fled the scene. The security officers were able to obtain both a suspect and vehicle descriptions, but were unable to apprehend the suspect.

On August 26, at approximately 2 p.m., Palo Alto detectives, with the help of California State Parole officers and the Oakland Police department, apprehended the suspect in Oakland. The suspect is identified as 32 year old Shunaka M. Jackson, a resident of Oakland. Jackson was apprehended in the vehicle that was used in the robbery. Jackson was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail on one count of robbery, one count of a parolee in possession of chemical spray, and for violating the conditions of her parole.

None of the three security officers sustained any life threatening or lasting injuries and have recovered from being sprayed.
