City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) announced today that TIBCO Software Inc (NASDAQ: TIBX), located in Palo Alto, will purchase renewable energy through PaloAltoGreen, the nation’s top-ranked renewable energy program offered by CPAU. TIBCO will purchase the equivalent of the annual output of one-half of a large-scale wind turbine.
TIBCO’s renewable power commitment –1,320,000 kilowatt hours annually from wind and solar sources – is one of the larger clean power commitments to PaloAltoGreen enabling the company to join the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership.
“We are excited about TIBCO’s participation in PaloAltoGreen,” said Brian Ward, PaloAltoGreen Program Manager. “We encourage other businesses in Palo Alto to follow TIBCO’s lead and support renewable energy through PaloAltoGreen.”
TIBCO’s clean power commitment will avoid the annual release of 1,607,760 pounds of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas. This has the annual environmental equivalence to protecting 165 acres of trees or removing 133 cars from the road.
PaloAltoGreen is a voluntary renewable energy program offered to all residential, commercial and industrial customers within Palo Alto as a way to support energy generated from 100% clean wind and solar power resources at an additional cost of 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour. CPAU customers can sign up for PaloAltoGreen by visiting www.cityofpaloalto.org/pagreen, by calling 650-329-2161, or by e-mailing email@example.com with name, service address and telephone number.
