Palo Alto, CA – The City will host a community meeting on Tuesday, May 19, from 7-8:30 p.m., to discuss the plans for the new Mitchell Park Library & Community Center and the renovation of the Downtown Library. The meeting will be held at the Mitchell Park Community Center, 3800 Middlefield Road.
Measure N, which was passed by 69.4% of Palo Alto’s voters in the November 2008 election, will fund the construction of a new joint library and community center facility at Mitchell Park, a major renovation of the Downtown Library, and an expansion and renovation of the Main Library.
Group 4 Architecture, of South San Francisco, has been hired to complete the design and construction drawings for the Mitchell Park and Downtown projects. Construction on these projects will begin in approximately one year. The construction at Main Library will begin after the new Mitchell Park Library is open in 2012. Therefore, further design of the Main Library project will begin in early 2011.
The May 19 meeting will begin with an overview by Group 4 of the Mitchell Park Library & Community Center and Downtown Library projects. The architects will facilitate small group discussions on the site and floor plans, sustainable strategies for the buildings, and exterior finishes and materials. Staff from the City’s Public Works, Library, and Community Services departments as well as the City Manager’s Office will be available to answer questions.
