Palo Alto, CA - U.S. Marshals today announced that they had located and arrested Pascual Nuno MARTINEZ, the alleged truck thief who tried to run over Officer Brad Kilpatrick last Thursday afternoon. Martinez was tracked to the home of an acquaintance in Kansas City, Missouri, and after hours of surveillance, he was arrested without incident.

Palo Alto Detectives worked for the past week to locate friends and associates of Martinez , and they worked in concert with many allied law enforcement agencies, both regionally and nationwide. They learned that Martinez  had ties to Kansas City and a request was made to the U.S. Marshals Office for assistance. Local Marshals asked their Kansas City counterparts to assist and surveillance began on the residence of a Martinez  associate in Kansas City. After lengthy surveillance, Marshals and the Kansas City Career Criminal Task Force confirmed Martinez' presence and arrested him without incident. He is being held in Missouri, pending an extradition hearing on December 15, 2008.

Martinez should be charged locally with the attempted murder of a police officer, several counts of auto theft and a probation violation.

The Palo Alto Police extend heartfelt thanks to all of the police agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Kansas City Career Criminal Task Force who assisted with this lengthy investigation and the successful apprehension of Martinez .
