Palo Alto, CA – The public is encouraged to participate in a community meeting about the use of technology on Wednesday, December 3, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Downtown Branch of the Palo Alto City Library, 270 Forest Avenue.

The Library is developing a plan that will incorporate the use of technology into new and better services for customers. The recent passage of Measure N, the library capital improvement bond for three of Palo Alto’s five libraries, provides a unique opportunity to integrate technology into the upgraded facilities.

Facilitator Lucien Kress will give a short presentation on the technology planning process, and innovations currently being developed and implemented in other library systems. Many libraries offer services such as downloadable music and video, enhanced on-line offerings, and the ability to create and share social content with fellow customers. Mr. Kress will facilitate brainstorming and evaluation exercises to develop ideas for improving and implementing technology.

"Palo Alto is fortunate to have so many citizens who are adept at envisioning the future. We want those great ideas about technology for the library to be incorporated into the Library’s technology plan," said Library Director Diane Jennings. "We will provide a web-based forum for follow-up discussion," she continued, "so that people can continue to interact and refine ideas."

The public may sign up for the meeting at Refreshments will be served. For additional information, contact Mary Minto, Collection and Technical Services Division Head at 329-2517 or at
