Contact : Agent Dan Ryan, Palo Alto Police Department    408-406-1330
Palo Alto, CA -  Palo Alto police are expecting to temporarily close parts of University Avenue on the afternoon of Sunday, 9 November 2008, to facilitate a protest march.

A group of local Churches and Community Organizations are organizing a march from the East Palo Alto City Hall to the Palo Alto City Hall, and several hundred marchers are expected. The event is expected to be a peaceful protest, but it is anticipated that traffic on University Avenue and in the Downtown area will be severely impacted, intermittently, between noon and 5:00 p.m. Portions of University Avenue and some adjacent cross streets will be closed temporarily during these hours.

Travelers in this area are asked to be patient, should they encounter street closures or traffic delays during this event. Police will have extra staff assigned to minimize traffic disruptions and to ensure the safety of the marchers, as well as to guarantee their right to peaceably assemble and protest.
