Palo Alto, CAPalo Alto City Library has rolled out a new web-based service that will allow customers to pay fines and fees on-line. The project, one of the City’s Innovation Fund winners, will save time and money by using technology to handle transactions formerly only handled directly by library staff. “Never again will customers be barred from renewing or placing a hold because they’re over their limit in fines,” said Martha Walters, the Library’s technology coordinator. “With this new service, people with fines can settle their accounts from the comfort of home. It’s another way the Library strives to use technology to provide the best service possible to customers.”

The new service is fast, safe, and secure, and customers who use it will be able to pay for all or a portion of their fines and other library charges. Features include:

  • SSL Encryption Protection
  • Payments credited to account immediately
  • Visa and Mastercard accepted
  • Paperless transaction
  • No added transaction charge to the customer
