Palo Alto, CA -- Police responded to the 100 block of Loma Verde Avenue just after 10:30 p.m., last night on a report of a strong-armed robbery. The female victim was walking home alone when she heard footsteps behind her. A male subject ran up, knocked her to the ground and held her down. He threatened her with a knife and forcibly removed her backpack containing her wallet, cash and cell phone.
The robber was last seen running away on foot, west on Loma Verde and then north on Alma. He is described as a black male adult, aged 20-25 years. He is approximately 5’10” tall and weighs about 170 lbs. He was wearing a white, long-sleeved, button-down shirt, dark-colored pants and a white cloth on his head. He is clean-shaven and dark-skinned. Although he threatened the victim with a knife, none was seen.
Citizens are reminded to avoid walking alone, particularly late at night. They should be aware of their surroundings and of any suspicious persons along their route. The best prevention is to have a plan in place such as walk with a friend, have someone pick you up or take a cab home.
If an incident should occur, do not struggle or resist. Immediately call 9-1-1 from a cell phone or a land line. Try to note any clothing or physical description and any vehicle description, if one is seen. Police are working extra patrols and will respond immediately to any similar calls, so time is of the essence in reporting these incidents.
