Double Fatality Traffic Collision near Peers Park
Contact : Agent Dan Ryan, City of Palo Alto Police Department    408-406-1330
Palo Alto, CA - At approximately 3:39 a.m., Palo Alto Police responded to the area of Park Boulevard and Stanford Avenue on the report of a vehicle collision. The first responding officers located a minivan wrapped around a tree at the south end of Peers Park.

Two male occupants were trapped inside of the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, although badly injured, was still alive. It took the Palo Alto Fire Department approximately 45 minutes to extract both occupants. The passenger was transported to Stanford University Hospital Emergency Room where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Palo Alto Police Department's Specialized Traffic Reconstruction Team (STAR) is investigating the collision. A preliminary finding suggests that the vehicle was traveling north on Park Boulevard at a high rate of speed and the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Stanford Avenue. The vehicle struck the curb and a tree as the road curved to the left, just past the intersection. The vehicle continued on and came to rest, wrapped around a second tree.

The identities of the two occupants, both peninsula residents in their early twenties, are being withheld until the Coroner’s Office can notify their next of kin.

All vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Park Boulevard between Stanford Avenue and Leland Avenue will be closed until the STAR Team has completed their investigation.
