Enrollment Begins for Citizens Academy Session

Palo Alto, CA - Citizens are invited to enroll for the next session of the Palo Alto Police Citizen’s Academy, which meets weekly, October 1 through November 19. The class sessions will be held each Wednesday, from 6 to 9 p.m.
 
Topics will include the following:

  • Selection and training process for police officers,
  • Activities on a typical police patrol shift in Palo Alto,
  • Use of force, including  "Shoot! – Don’t Shoot!"  firearms-training simulator,
  • Criminal Investigations procedures,
  • Communications/Dispatch procedures and a "sit-along" in the Dispatch Center,
  • Laws of Arrest / Search and Seizure,
  • Patrol ride-along with an officer,
  • Internal Affairs Procedures, and
  • ...many more topics.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 16 years (under 18 years requires parental consent),
  • Residence, employment, or some connection to the Palo Alto community,
  • No felony convictions,
  • No misdemeanor convictions within one year, and
  • Successfully pass an interview and background check.
