Foothills Park “Attack” Report Not Substantiated
Contact : Agent Dan Ryan, Palo Alto Police Department    408-406-1330
Palo Alto CA - Police and the California Department of Fish and Game completed an in-depth investigation today and determined that no evidence was found to substantiate a man’s report that he had been attacked by a mountain lion while hiking in Foothills Park on Saturday, July 12, 2008.

The investigation included two separate interviews with the victim, an analysis of his wounds, several site surveys and a forensic examination of the victim’s clothing. No evidence was found during this investigation that could substantiate that a mountain lion had been involved in the man’s fall and injuries.

The Department of Fish and Game has concluded its investigation and is no longer searching for any mountain lion in Foothills Park.

City officials plan to re-open the Park later this week; the exact date has not yet been decided.
