Palo Alto, CA - On June 4, 2008, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a Palo Alto High School security officer saw a suspicious male subject near the bicycle cages located on the school campus. When the security officer approached the subject, he immediately fled on foot. The security officer notified school officials and then chased the subject across El Camino Real onto the Stanford Campus.

Officers from Palo Alto Police and the Stanford Department of Public Safety quickly responded and established a perimeter surrounding the area where the subject was last seen. A short time later, officers located the subject in an area between two Stanford University dormitories. The suspect, 22 year-old Laron Sisk of San Jose, was arrested without incident.

A pair of bolt cutters was discovered in an area close to where the suspect was hiding. During a subsequent interview, Palo Alto Police learned that the subject was planning to use the bolt cutters to cut the lock off the Palo Alto High School bicycle cage but was never able to do so. It was also learned that the suspect may be responsible for 20 additional bike thefts throughout the Palo Alto downtown area. These thefts took place over the past 6 months. The suspect was not in possession of any stolen bicycles at the time of his arrest.

Suspect Sisk was booked into the San Jose Main Jail for attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, and a probation violation.
