Palo Alto, CA - Palo Alto Police officers engaged in a short pursuit with a suspect after a victim reported being threatened with a gun. At 1:36 a.m. on April 10, 2008, a Palo Alto patrol officer was waved over by a victim who claimed that a suspect had threatened him with a handgun after being involved in a minor vehicle collision. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of El Camino Real at the Jack in the Box parking lot.

Shortly after the report of the brandishing, Palo Alto officers located a possible suspect vehicle traveling North on El Camino Real near Quarry Road. The driver of the vehicle immediately attempted to evade the officers when they activated their emergency lights. After a very short pursuit, the suspect collided with the center median and a sign, which disabled the vehicle and forced the suspect to flee on foot in the 100 block of Alma Street. Stanford DPS and Menlo Park Police assisted in a perimeter search while a K-9 unit from the San Mateo county sheriff’s office was utilized to search the area. After an extensive search, the suspect was not located. A loaded handgun was recovered from inside the suspect's vehicle.

The suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-20s with short or shaved hair, wearing a white striped shirt and dark pants. Palo Alto police are still following up on the investigation.
