Contact : Dan Ryan, Agent, City of Palo Alto Police Department    408-406-1330
Palo Alto, CA -- Police responded to Park Boulevard and California Avenue shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, on a report of a man trying to entice two teens into his van. The two teens declined the offer, and ran from the scene to call for help. They described a white male subject, 30 - 40 years old, with a rounded face and a medium build, who was driving a late model passenger van with dark-tinted windows. The male subject was last seen in the area of the 2300 block of Park Blvd, North of California Ave.

The man had asked two teens if they wanted a ride as the teens walked down the sidewalk just before noon on January 15. After they declined the offer, the man turned around and sped away, Northbound on Park Boulevard The two teens ran home and later called police.

Police chased and arrested a man last Tuesday, who was seen sitting in a van in the same area; it appears now that he was not involved in this original incident. He was charged with parole violation and other unrelated crimes.

Police advise all pedestrians to walk together in groups, to be aware of their surroundings, and to be prepared to run and/or shout for help if they are accosted.

Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to police.
