Palo Alto, CA – The City of Palo Alto announced that Lalo Perez has been named Director of the Administrative Services Department (ASD) to succeed Carl Yeats, who retires in December, 2007. Lalo will assume his new duties on January 1, 2008, and be responsible for the Accounting, Real Estate, Budget, Treasury, Purchasing and Information Technology Divisions of ASD for the City. Lalo Perez has served for the past six years as Assistant Director of ASD.

"Lalo Perez brings extensive and valuable experience with the City’s Administrative Services Department," said City Manager Frank Benest. "We are fortunate to have him take the helm for ASD and recognize his management expertise and commitment to the City."

Perez came to City of Palo Alto in 1985 and during his tenure has been responsible for many programs in the Treasury and Budget Divisions, as well as Budget Manager, before assuming his current position as Assistant Director in 2001. He has key knowledge of accounting principles, practices and the City’s budget process, along with financial management and administrative expertise. In addition, he is responsible for implementation and maintenance of the City’s SAP integrated financial system. Perez recognizes the challenges he faces as Director of ASD, such as maintaining a balance between funding current services and renovating infrastructure as well as managing rising costs in funding new City projects.

Perez has a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Business Administration from Notre Dame De Namur University and will complete his Executive Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University in December 2007.
