Palo Alto, Ca. - The Palo Alto Police responded to a robbery in progress at the Stanford Shopping Center today at 11:24 am.  The suspect, Siaosi Kupu, 19 years-old, from East Palo Alto approached two female victims who were walking north bound on the east side of the Macy’s Men’s store. Kupu bumped into one of the victims and grabbed the purse of the second victim.  The victim’s purse strap broke and she struggled with Kupu by pulling back on the purse.  The victim fell to the ground as Kupu fled the scene.  A citizen who witnessed the robbery, chased after Kupu who ran north towards the San Francisquito creek which runs along Sand Hill Road.  The witness telephoned Palo Alto Police who along with Menlo Park Police took Kupu into custody without incident.

The victim sustained minor scrapes and abrasions and was not transported to the hospital.  Kupu was arrested and transported to San Jose Main Jail where he was charged with PC 211, Strong Arm Robbery.
