Palo Alto, CA – A 12-year-old girl riding her bike was the victim of an indecent exposure Sunday afternoon. The suspect is unknown and remains at large.

On Sunday, January 3, 2021 at about 4:34 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call of an indecent exposure that had occurred in the 800 block of Driftwood Drive.

The investigation revealed that between 3 and 4 p.m., the victim, a 12-year-old girl, had been riding her bicycle when a car pulled up alongside her. She stopped, and the driver asked her for directions. When the victim looked inside the vehicle, she saw the man had his genitals exposed and he was touching himself. The man then opened the driver’s door as if to get out, at which point the victim rode away from him. The man drove after her briefly but then left the area at the same time the victim noticed a family walking nearby. The victim returned home and told a parent, who in turn notified police.

The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his thirties. He was either bald or had extremely close-cropped hair. He was wearing a light-colored denim jacket, dark denim pants, and large silver sunglasses. The victim described his vehicle as a newer silver Toyota sedan, possibly a Camry. She said the license plate contained the letter “H.” The victim met with a police sketch artist, who produced the attached sketch of the suspect.

Detectives are actively investigating this case. There have been no similar cases in Palo Alto for more than a year where an indecent exposure suspect targeted a juvenile. Police ask for your help with reporting suspicious activity immediately via 9-1-1. We also advise parents to remind children to remain alert no matter where they are, and to tell a trusted adult immediately about anything they see that does not seem quite right.
