Palo Alto, CA – Police arrested a suspect for assaulting a victim in the parking of a shopping center on Friday afternoon. Officers apprehended the suspect and booked him into the San Jose Main Jail.

On Friday, December 13, 2019 at around 1:47 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a man brandishing a knife in the Town and Country Shopping Center located at 855 El Camino Real. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim, an adult male in his fifties, was verbally confronted by a male suspect unknown to him. The suspect pushed the victim in the back and when the victim turned around, the suspect pulled out a pocket knife with the blade extended and started swinging it at the victim. The suspect then told the victim he was going to physically harm him. The victim yelled for help and the suspect stopped. Officers quickly arrived on scene and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a pocket knife from the suspect. The victim did not suffer any injuries.

Police arrested 57-year-old Michael Keyes of San Francisco and booked him into the San Jose Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats (both felonies). His booking photo is attached to this news release
